A MicroRes device consists of a reagent chamber and a sample cylinder as shown in the figure. The two are coupled through a hollow rubber chamber seat, which connects the two headspaces into one but separates the reagent from the sample. The reagent in a MicroRes needs to be homogenized either by a rotary shaker or a vibrational shaker (Viber) during a test.

The “simplified version” has a one-step procedure. The “original version” has less subjective error and could get a more accurate result. The “simplified version” is really easy to operate but may have greater subjective errors in determining the end point (color change) of the procedure.

For strict quantitative measurements, we recommend the “original version”. For comparison or semi-quantitative purposes, for example, detection of microbial contamination or comparison of microbial activities, the “simplified version” is recommended. Both methods, however, have been verified in peer-reviewed technical journal articles.
